Research Fundraising Officer

Join our team: we’ll take on dementia together

Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

Position: Research Fundraising Officer
Location: London
Contract type: Permanent
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: £32,326.00 per annum (actual)

Closing date: 30 June 2017
Interview date: Monday 10 July

About the role:

Fundraising at Alzheimer’s Society is growing fast. We raised nearly £70m last year, 12% more than the previous year, and we’re aiming for £100m by 2022. Can you help us make it happen?

Alzheimer’s Society is embarking on a bold new five-year strategy, a New Deal on Dementia, to unite society and individuals to defeat dementia. Our New Deal on Research will drive the dementia research agenda - joining together the research community and putting the knowledge and experiences of people affected by dementia at its heart. We’re investing £50 million in the UK’s first dedicated Dementia Research Institute and a further £100 million into pioneering research across the spectrum including biomedical, prevention, assistive technology and care research. Our ambition by 2022 is to have made our biggest ever investment in dementia prevention, care and cure research. This will transform the landscape of dementia research, here and abroad.

About you:

We’re looking for someone who can turn our growing portfolio of research projects into really exciting funding opportunities for our highest-value donors. Using your understanding of biomedical science, you’ll work with fundraisers to pick the most relevant and inspiring research projects for each supporter. Working as part of a dedicated proposal and report-writing team, you’ll use your proven writing skills to translate the scientific information we get from our grantholders into lay-friendly, compelling funding proposals and reports. You’ll support other team members working with complex scientific copy and help to identify new and creative ways to package up and present our research to supporters.

So if you have the scientific knowledge to understand our portfolio – currently 156 grants worth over £30m – and the written flair to share that knowledge with lay funders and inspire their support, we’d like to hear from you. You’ll have the full support of our Research Communications team, as well as senior fundraisers.

Alzheimer’s Society is committed to equal opportunities.

You may have experience of the following: Research Fundraising Officer, Dementia Research, Biomedical Science, Scientific Research, Charity, Not for Profit, Third Sector, etc.
