Wales Millennium Centre

Director of Development

Cardiff, UK

Competitive salary and benefits

"Inspire our Nation, Impress the World.”

The Wales Millennium Centre is the national arts centre for Wales. Our mission is to bring to Wales the best creative work and artists from all over the world; to create productions which nurture and celebrate Welsh talent at home and on tour; and to offer inclusive opportunities for everyone to enjoy the arts.

Since we opened in 2004, we have witnessed the transformational impact of the arts, especially for young people.  The arts can help build the skills needed to enjoy life such as creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.  Our learning and engagement programmes address these through the creation of digital learning experiences, practical skills workshops and courses, partnering with nationwide youth-led festivals and giving young people the opportunity to take part in world-class theatre productions.

To enable us to reach more young people and to continue to entertain, stimulate and inspire our audiences at home and abroad, we are seeking a strategic and experienced fundraising professional to join the Leadership team as the new Director of Development and deliver our shared vision for the Centre.  The post holder will be responsible for setting and delivering the fundraising strategy, and leading a committed and thriving Development team to raise funds from statutory, philanthropic and corporate sources to support our work.

Key to your success in this role is your confidence and outstanding track record of philanthropic income generation from individual and/or corporate sources. You possess excellent interpersonal, negotiation, leadership and management skills with the ability to operate at a very senior level.  A deep understanding of the UK arts sector and experience of navigating large, complex organisations would be a major advantage.  Your excellent communication skills, and enterprising approach will be obvious to all who meet you.

Our impact can be felt on many levels - on the economy, the community, our young people, on culture, on sustainability, on tourism.  If you are interested in contributing to our success, we’d like to hear from you.  Please contact our recruitment partner, Sonja Dunphy, Managing Director of Richmond Associates to arrange a confidential discussion on +44 (0)20 3617 9240, or visit their website to view the information pack for this exceptional opportunity.

Closing date for applications is 10AM on 19th September 2018.
