The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is one of the world’s top four botanic gardens based on the quality, breadth and depth of our science, plant collections, public engagement and education. As part of a review of our income generation, we have created an exciting new role of Director of Development to join our senior management team and develop, implement and lead a new ambitious fundraising strategy.

The immediate goal of the role is to plan and implement a fundraising campaign to increase investment in RBGE’s work, with an aim is to raise £10m over a five-year period of the campaign. In the longer term the post will be responsible for establishing a sustainable community of donors supporting the Garden, with a particular emphasis on major gifts, corporate relationships and legacies. The postholder will also assist the Regius Keeper in scoping a major capital campaign, with a funding strategy based around a mix of public and private funds.

Applicants will need to have significant experience at a senior level in a comparable role, along with proven leadership skills and an ability to think strategically. You’ll need a strong demonstrable and creditable track record in successfully soliciting and securing major gifts, and a solid understanding of the principles of charitable giving and charity and fundraising regulation. Knowledge of current and evolving trends and best practice in fundraising will also be a prerequisite.
