JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Events Fundraiser

Reports to:  Senior Events & Community Manager

Salary: £24,000 - £27,000 depending upon experience

Based at: 74 St Annes Road, Woolston, Southampton, SO19 9FF

Hours of work: Full-time [37.5 hours per week]

Job Purpose

  • To manage existing UK and international fundraising events and recruit supporters to all challenge events

  • Further develop the UK & international events programme

  • Manage and grow allocated corporate relationships

  • To meet and exceed where possible financial targets

Profile and Scope

Sailors’ Society is looking for an enthusiastic, professional, full-time Events Fundraiser. The preferred candidate will have:

  • Sales experience of recruiting corporate support and participants for fundraising events

  • A strong track record of event management within the fundraising sector

  • An excellent track record in building relationships across many different audience groups

Reporting Relationships and Organisational Fit

The Events Fundraiser role is available due to the current post holder moving on.

Location

The post is located in Sailors’ Society Southampton offices and the Events Fundraiser is expected to live in working week commuting distance.

Although predominantly office based the post holder will have to travel to events both within the UK and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

Event Management

  • Manage all elements of designated events, to include research, business plans, timelines, budgets and communications plan

  • Liaison with events suppliers, volunteers and third party companies

  • Ensure all legal event requirements are fulfilled e.g. risk assessment, negotiate insurance

  • Design and implement a full communications journeys for participants for each event

  • Work with the Media and Advocacy department to ensure all marketing/PR opportunities are fulfilled for each event.

  • Work with Corporate Partnerships and Program Teams to determine allocation of funds to projects

  • Communicate clearly with Accounts Team on expected incoming and outgoing funds

Event Income Generation

  • Responsible for running events to meet income and expenditure budgets, raising net income for the organisation

  • Securing teams/table holders/delegates to attend Sailors’ Society events through emails, telephone calls, face to face meetings and group presentations.

  • Designing a corporate sponsorship package for each event

  • Secure corporate sponsorship for each event with appropriate lead times

  • Ensure funds pledged are collected within the designated time frame.

  • Maintaining administration systems to record proper record keeping and allocation of donations

  • Contribute to the budget and financial reports, and participate in team financial planning

  • Where appropriate , secure warm leads for the Corporate Partnerships team

Relationship Management

  • Research, identify and make contact with new companies to develop meaningful relationships.

  • Manage allocated corporate supporter relationships and communicate with them on behalf of other team members

  • Motivate supporters to maximise the funds they raise.

  • Encourage supporters to organise their own events to raise money.

  • Ensure donors are thanked and receive updates on how their donations have helped

Innovation

  • Constantly evolve the events programme by analysing the market and predicting future trends

  • Contribute to identifying and developing new opportunities for events.

Compliance

  • Ensure that we comply with relevant charity legislation and best practice.

The post holder will also be expected to work flexibly across Sailors’ Society and undertake tasks as required.

Person Specification (minimum requirement)

Essential Attributes

  • A confident and persuasive fundraiser, unafraid to make direct approaches for support

  • Experience in organising and delivering successful fundraising events

  • Strong track record of working to financial targets

  • Ability to work with a high degree of motivation and initiative

  • An excellent communicator

  • Exemplary skills in relationship building

  • Good and clear writing skills

  • Ability to manage a evolving workload of multiple events and corporate relationships

  • Excellent IT Skills

  • Enthusiastic personality with the ability to proactively respond to new opportunities

  • Passionate about fundraising and events

  • Ability to attend events out of office hours and travel internationally when required (current international trips are, on average three to four per year in the UK and abroad

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience of working within a sales or fundraising department

  • An understanding of events fundraising in an international context

  • Experience of increasing supporter engagement with an organisation

  • Experience of using a Customer Relationship database such as Raisers Edge
