JOB DESCRIPTION

Title:  Senior Trust Officer  

Reports to: Head of Fundraising

Budget Responsibility: none

Based at: 74 St Annes Road, Woolston, Southampton, SO19 9FF

Hours of work: Full-time [37.5 hours per week]

Team Association: Development Department

Job Purpose To be pro-active in identifying and developing new and existing relationships with trusts, foundations and statutory bodies in order to generate income and assist the team in reaching agreed income targets.

Salary: £30k-35k depending upon experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, research and approach prospective contacts in order to cultivate relationships and generate new business.

  • Support the Head of Fundraising in maintaining and building upon existing trust partnerships.

  • Compile, create and submit compelling applications to new and regular Trust / Foundation and Statutory funders.

  • Supervise a member of staff within the trust income stream and provide cover during absences.

  • Gain an in-depth knowledge and keep abreast of the progress of all Sailors’ Society’s programmes, projects and events in order to prepare high quality, commercially relevant and compelling proposals, reports and presentations.

  • Take responsibility for the entire ‘portfolio’ of trusts, foundations and statutory relationships, following all leads through to completion, meeting income raising targets and accurately recording all correspondence.

  • Keep accurate records of all correspondence with Society stakeholders on Raisers’ Edge NXT.

  • Maintain up to date front-to-end processes and procedures.

  • Attend internal and external meetings, events and presentations as required.

  • Ensure donors are promptly thanked and their gift is accurately recorded.

  • Provide administrative duties related to trust, foundation and statutory income generation, such as sourcing materials, maintaining electronic records and filing as required.

Personal Development

The Senior Trust Officer will be expected to maintain a high level of competence and capability. Appropriate training and development opportunities will be identified as required.

Person Specification (minimum requirement)

Essential Attributes

  • A strong understanding and proven experience in fundraising in trusts, foundations and statutory grants.

  • Proven experience in managing and delivering a pipelines in excess of £400k

  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to write accurate, powerful, compelling and persuasive copy in a range of formats e.g. cover letters, case studies, proposals, grant applications and impact reports.

  • Ability to match the needs of prospective trust requirements with the needs of programme.

  • Solid experience in forecasting and managing budgets, performance management and

  • Confident and competent at approaching new business prospects on the telephone, face-to-face and in writing.

  • Excellent networking skills ands willingness to travel occasionally for partnership meetings.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels and to represent the Society in person.

  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to plan and manage a complex and demanding variety of tasks and to meet strict deadlines and working under time pressure.

  • Ability to work under own initiative and with others as a team.

  • Good Microsoft office skills covering word, power point and excel.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in experience.

  • Prepared to work outside of normal office hours in the evenings and occasional weekends.

  • Entrepreneurial approach when looking for funding to meet needs.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience in working in a busy fundraising environment.

  • Experience with MS 365

  • Experience of using Raisers’ Edge NXT or other CRM database.

  • Entrepreneurial approach when looking for funding to meet needs.

  • A good understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility, corporate community engagement initiatives and established corporate fundraising techniques.

  • Experience of working for a charity and an understanding of charity law.

  • An understanding of the global shipping and maritime industry.
