Job Description

Salford Foundation is a social inclusion charity supporting the development of children, young people and adults in educational and community settings. The Grants & Bid Manager will report directly to the Chief Executive. He/she will be required to work proactively in supporting the Senior Management team in expanding its services in support of socially excluded young people and adults and contributing to the long term sustainability of the organisation through researching new sources of funding, writing professional submissions and co-ordinating with key staff in the creation of successful tenders and applications.

The work will require a proactive approach to researching opportunities and developing a co-ordinated approach to producing requisite tenders and proposals. Experience in the writing of submissions for funding will be essential as will a successful track record in securing funding.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work to project deadlines. The ability to work in a team and act independently will also be key aspects of the work.

Job Description

The Grants & Bid Manager will report directly to the Chief Executive. He/she will be required to work proactively in supporting the Senior Management team in (a) expanding its services in support of socially excluded young people and adults; (b) expand its universal provision; and (c) contribute to the long-term sustainability of the organisation through researching new sources of funding, writing professional submissions including the co-ordination key staff in the creation of successful tenders and proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research new funding/tendering opportunities for the expansion of existing services within Salford and across Greater Manchester
  • Identify a range of alternative national and regional funding sources to extend and/or develop existing services in line with emerging policies
  • Work with key staff to co-ordinate and support on specialist tenders and proposals
  • Directly produce a number of final proposals and tenders

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the senior management team in the development of tenders
  • Monitor public and third sector funding opportunities at a national, regional and local level that may be relevant to the work of the organisation
  • Provide the senior management team with timely identification of viable and relevant funding opportunities
  • Contribute to and coordinate proposals for submissions to appropriate funding bodies and track progress
  • Lead on the creation of specific proposals to meet the operational needs of project co-ordinators
  • Monitor and advise on pre qualification criteria needed at local and national level to access funding opportunities
  • Develop/access new networks to identify new opportunities for funding
  • Review the effectiveness of existing databases and research new sites as alternatives
  • Work to agreed targets for opportunities identified/income generation
  • Provide management progress reports for internal and external use as and when required
  • To implement and comply with all the Foundation’s policies, including the Safeguarding Children Policy and procedures and ground rules for implementing appropriate behaviour with children and young people.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of social inclusion and poverty issues and associated strategies of remedy
  • Knowledge of funder requirements and expectations
  • Knowledge of the range of funding sources and databases for research purposes and as means to monitor new funding opportunities

Experience:

  • Bid writing in the voluntary sector in all or some of the areas of operation of the Foundation 
  • Recent experience of successful submissions for funding
  • Monitoring public sector databases to identify funding opportunities
  • Working collaboratively with staff and external partners to develop funding submissions
  • Liaising with funding bodies to better understand their expectations
  • Tracking the progress of funding applications

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Effective research skills to assist in setting out rationale/evidence for submissions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with other
  • Ability to research, analyse, interpret and explain complex information in a simple and concise manner
  • Ability to use own initiative, plan and prioritise workloads with a minimum of supervision
