We are seeking an experienced proposal writer to take up the role of Senior UK Funding Officer. The role supports the UK Programmes department and Save the Children fundraising teams to raise vital funds for our work in the UK, allowing us to support disadvantaged children and give them the best start in life.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our UK Programmes department delivers humanitarian and development programmes, builds partnerships with institutional donors – including governments, multi-laterals and trusts – and drives lasting change. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

We believe every child has the chance to succeed and through the work we do in our UK programmes we continue to stand up for children who are facing poverty, right here in the UK. We take risks and experiment to find new evidence-based programmes, scale up and influence others to replicate them.

As Senior UK Funding Officer you will prepare compelling and often large, targeted concept notes, presentations and proposals for high level donors in partnership with the corporate, philanthropy, trusts and institutional fundraising teams at Save the Children.

In addition you will:

  • Provide high quality grant management to UK Programmes donors by writing well-written and accurate donor reports
  • Maintain and regularly update relevant financial systems and produce donor-specific financial reports
  • Work closely with colleagues in the UK Programme Funding team to oversee high value, targeted grants
  • Monitor grant spend against budgets, supporting and communicating any delivery issues to fundraising, and working with the UK Programmes staff to resolve them
  • Be a focal point for fundraising teams, building strong relationships and acting as the ‘go to’ for programmatic information
  • Work closely with Save the Children teams in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to increase funding for our UK work, maximizing all opportunities.

You will have a good understanding of the UK fundraising market as a whole and be motivated by a desire to play a role in supporting disadvantaged children across the UK. You should have experience of working with either major donors, corporate, trusts, statutory funders or mass market, with a good understanding of what motivates these donors. In addition you will:

  • Understand and be motivated by the critical link between high quality communications and the ability to engage donors, and delivery against income targets
  • Have strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of different teams
  • Be a strong communicator, both verbally and in writing
  • Have the ability to assess complex programme information and translate it into compelling supporter proposals or reports
  • Have a resilient nature and confident IT skills including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
