Active Events Fundraiser

Salary: £20-22,000

Full-time 35 hours per week, with occasional UK travel

Location: Central Peterborough PE1 2UQ

Closing Date: 31st July

We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual to manage and grow our portfolio of challenge and endurance events, including the London Marathon, the Great North Run, and other national and international active events.

Reporting to the Director of Fundraising, ideally you will:

  • Be responsible for maintaining and developing new ideas for Shine’s portfolio of active/challenge events;
  • Deliver on income targets, within an agreed budget;
  • Be a confident self-starter with experience in fundraising or organising similar events;
  • Excellent at connecting with people;
  • Flexible in your approach to work, able to embrace change and be available to work occasional evenings and weekends when necessary;
  • Have proven experience of working in the charity sector; and
  • Be willing to travel across the UK as required.

Proficiency in databases, particularly Raiser’s Edge would be an advantage.

Job Description

Job Title: Active/Challenge Events Fundraiser

Department: Fundraising and Communications

Reports to: Director of Fundraising and Communications

Salary: £20-£22,000

Nature: Full Time 35 hours per week

Location: Peterborough

Purpose of Job

To develop and support the delivery of Shine’s fundraising challenge/active events in order to reach agreed targets. The role relates primarily to individuals participating in bespoke and/or national and international fundraising challenge activities.

Principal Duties

  • To maintain established relationships with current supporters, and build relationships with new supporters to encourage long-term commitment and participation
  • To provide ongoing support, encouragement and recognition to event participants through keeping in regular contact via telephone, letter, email and social media
  • To maximise income through matched funding including raising awareness raising advocacy by the participant to their family, clubs and work
  • To promote activities through multi-channels and audiences
  • To provide comprehensive research and data gathering for new fundraising initiatives.
  • To follow up fundraising approaches/enquiries via the appropriate communication channels
  • To develop and recommend new initiatives and activities (both in-house and 3rd party)
  • Any other duties consistent with the above, and any other relevant duties required as the job develops including working out of office hours when required. 

Skills, experience, and personal qualities

  • Ideally at least two years experience in the fundraising field
  • IOF Certificate in Fundraising is desirable
  • A strong commitment to work within the charity sector and to ‘make a difference
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Have an enquiring mind and the ability to connect with people
  • The ability to multi-task and be able to prioritise the workload to meet deadlines
  • The ability and willingness to consistently make asks
  • Evidence of previous and current success
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, comfortable in a range of settings, warm and encouraging telephone manner
  • The desire to grow income, the role and a career in fundraising
  • Good level of numeracy
  • Fully competent in IT skills, CRM Tools (Raiser’s Edge is desirable).
  • Ability to produce quality reports, editorial copy, emails, letters, faxes, or social media on behalf of the charity
  • The ability and willingness to work individually and as a member of a tight knit team
  • The ability to understand Shine’s mission and priorities, and act with those in mind at all times
  • The ability and willingness to work weekends and evenings as required to fit with the demands of the job.
