A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full time Major Gifts Officer to join the Major Giving Team at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

SSAFA is the UK’s oldest tri-service charity, providing lifelong support for serving personnel, veterans and their families. Last year, we helped 82,001 people from the Armed Forces family to get back on their feet. We provide hope, welfare and financial support for as long as it takes to give back independence and dignity to all those who turn to us for help. From the youngest recruit to the oldest veteran, no one’s service is ever forgotten.

About the role

This is an exciting time to join the Major Giving team, as we embark upon a new Major Donor Strategy building upon our existing portfolio of high-value supporters and developing new programmes and initiatives to attract and inspire new supporters to our cause.  The role is wide-ranging and will include elements of research, event management, stewardship and communications.  You will have an opportunity to engage at senior level both within the organisation and at external networking and fundraising events.  Some travel will be included but you will be normally based at our City Office in London, right in the heart of the ‘Square Mile’.

About the team

The Major Giving Team covers Trust and Foundations fundraising as well as Major Donors.  The wider directorate includes Corporate Partnerships and Events, Individual Giving and Legacies, Commercial Partnerships and Merchandise as well as Community Fundraising. The Fundraising Directorate is a happy and energetic department and thrives in a collaborative environment. We work closely across the organisation with our volunteers and service delivery colleagues to ensure that we all share a common purpose and understanding of the wonderful individuals and families we help and the amazing people and organisations that are inspired to support our charity.

About you

We are seeking an enthusiastic, confident and articulate individual, as comfortable in networking circles as amongst peers. Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels is a ‘must’ along with a clear eye for detail and pride in quality of work.  You will be adept at following processes, as this will be important in ensuring a high and consistent standard of stewardship experience.  This role is key within the Major Gifts team, supporting the Major Gifts Manager and Head of Major Giving.

A background in charity fundraising will be an advantage, particularly if you have experience of working with high-value supporters or on major gift appeals.  However, you may have equivalent experience and skills from a public, private or education sector background, and these will be considered also.

SSAFA is an employer that values the diversity of its workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

No agencies please. Any unsolicited submissions from agencies will be accepted as a direct application from the candidate and no fees will be payable.
