The role of Major Gifts and Corporate Fundraising Manager at St George’s Hospital Charity (SGHC) is varied and interesting. Based in our Charity office within St George’s Hospital, you will cultivate high value individual and company relationships for the charity, and lead on arranging stewardship events. You will report to the Head of Fundraising to ensure all activity is co-ordinated and opportunities are maximised to deliver high quality supporter care and compliance with fundraising best practice. You will be a proactive fundraiser active in the local community, making contacts, networking and delivering a structured plan to support current fundraising appeals and novel initiatives.

Close liaison with colleagues means that you will be heavily involved with donors who support specific areas of the hospital so you’ll be dealing directly with beneficiaries of the hospital’s work and their relatives. It’s a motivating environment as you’ll see the difference your work makes to staff, patients and relatives. It’s also a complex environment with many opportunities to engage new support so it will require skill and allow you to develop new experiences and knowledge.

The role covers both corporate and high level individual giving (weighting ~60/40), so you will need to have significant experience of working in a relationship focussed fundraising environment and we would like evidence of working on major corporate partnerships. Account management experience and a background of working with major supporters is essential, using a donor development framework. Sound knowledge of charity legislation and the Charities Act is required.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Supporter and Prospect Account Management

  • Develop first class relationships with allocated prospects and supporters, delivering the highest levels of donor care and providing effective stewardship at all times
  • Adhere to all key proposal and reporting deadlines, ensuring supporters are continually informed of the organisation’s progress in alignment with their preferences
  • Work with trustees and the Executive Management Team to organise meetings and presentations to existing and potential companies and major donors
  • Assist in the recruitment of a Development Board to support the charity’s Appeals
  • Monitor and track activity through the use of project management techniques and operational tracking documents
  • Ensure diligent reporting against KPIs and metrics as required by the Executive Management Team and Trustees
  • Ensure effective management of relationships with individuals and businesses, maximising fundraising and developing long term supporters
  • Use the skills and talents of the Fundraising & Events Coordinator to research new support
  • Lead on the delivery of key events to profile the charity’s opportunities for giving

    2. Systems and Processes
  • Oversee the provision of excellent supporter care by following systems and processes to continually improve the charity’s efficiency and output
  • Develop and maintain project proposals, liaising closely with Head of Fundraising and other Managers, whilst adhering strictly to brand guidelines and key messaging
  • Develop the prospecting and research programme to source major donors and companies with an interest in SGHC’s work in line with income goals
  • Continue to develop a major donor and corporate supporter journey as part of a charity-wide supporter journey project
  • Manage the corporate and major giving fundraising programme via Access ThankQ CRM
  • Become masters of our CRM by acquiring  the skills and knowledge to fully exploit the power of the database
  • Support, motivate and develop supporters and hospital staff, ensuring they have a clear understanding of SGHC and our purpose
  • Account manage corporate partnerships
  • Maintain close adherence to the policies and procedures of the charity
  • Providing guidance to key supporters when planning their own events

3 Fundraising Development

  • Actively collaborate with the whole fundraising team to design and implement strategies and operational plans including for legacy fundraising, in memoriam/in celebration, gift aid maximisation, third party adoptions, ‘in aid of’ fundraising, and volunteering
  • Work collaboratively as one of a team of managers, helping others achieve their objectives and enlisting the help of other managers and staff to achieve the community and events objectives
  • Work with colleagues to support the expansion of online capabilities
  • Develop materials with colleagues for promoting the opportunity to give
  • Attend public-facing events, providing face to face talks and presentations to varied audiences to promote the work of the charity
  • Develop new corporate ‘products’ to expand income growth in a sustainable way

4 Fundraising compliance

  • Work with the Head of Fundraising to ensure all requirements for fundraising compliance by volunteers and staff are adhered to
  • Keep up to date with fundraising legislation and codes of practice and to provide relevant advice to fundraisers and colleagues

5 Budget management

  • Formulate major giving and corporate budgets and targets in consultation with the Head of Fundraising
  • Ensure that fundraising income reaches agreed monthly and annual budgets
  • Oversee and manage annual expenditure as agreed with the Head of Fundraising

6 Other responsibilities

  • Benchmark, monitor and incorporate best practice in corporate and major gift fundraising, seeking to innovate constantly to improve income
  • Work closely with the Communications Manager and Head of Fundraising on media, PR and marketing  initiatives
  • Work as part of the Operational Management Group to drive the charity’s operations forward in line with the Terms of Reference
  • Maintain an understanding of other charity activity in the area
  • To be aware of and comply with St George’s NHS Healthcare Trust, Health and Safety  regulations
  • To ensure all information and data related to the Charity’s work as a whole is treated as confidential at all times
  • To promote a positive image of St George’s Hospital Charity at all times
  • To work with a cohort of specially selected Special Purpose Funds to develop their fundraising in line with income targets
  • To identify, recruit and support volunteers to assist the charity in reaching its goals
  • Any other duties and projects delegated by the Director of Fundraising
