Job title: Fundraising Manager (Trusts & Foundations)

Salary: £24,313 pro rata (22.5 hours) = £19,220

Contract type: Temporary - fixed term for 12months with desire to extend

Responsible to: Director

Hours of work: 22½ hours per week

Place of work: Portslade (and option to work from home)

Annual Leave entitlement: 25 days per year + bank holidays

Pension: 3%

Notice period: 1 month

About the role

Stay Up Late is a small Brighton based charity that supports people with learning disabilities to lead active social lives – and Stay Up Late!

We work nationally to develop our ‘No Bedtimes’ campaign calling for an end to inflexible support systems for adults with learning disabilities.

Locally we deliver our innovative Gig Buddies volunteer befriending project across Sussex.

The interest in our Gig Buddies project has also seen us franchise it across the UK and in Australia.

We are a small charity but have a good reputation nationally for impactful and innovative work which has seen as awarded the recognition of being a Nesta New Radical.

With the increasing demand on our work we are seeking an experienced Fundraising Officer to lead our fundraising and contribute to our ambitious plans for income generation. This will be largely building on our track record of working with Trusts & Foundations but also exploring new avenues that we have been exploring as a charity.

Main purpose of the role

To lead on delivering Stay Up Late’s fundraising strategy by maximising income from regional and national Trusts & Foundations and ensuring there is a robust plan in place for income generation. You will have support and guidance from the Director.

You will be responsible for the effective management of a prospect pipeline, meeting annual targets and ensuring that bids and evaluation reports are submitted to deadline.

You will also support the team in developing an effective impact measurement system that reflects the efficacy of our work but also enables us as a charity to express the uniqueness of what we do. You will have support from the team in delivering this.

Key responsibilities

Develop and secure funding from new and known Trusts and Foundations

  • Undertake prospect research, ensuring all new and known funders are captured in the pipeline
  • Prepare and submit agreed number of bids on quarterly basis to meet targets in 2020-21, tracking conversion rates and ensuring timely feedback to Director
  • Oversee the charity’s fundraising strategy
  • Develop funding bids to meet operational priorities, as expressed in Stay Up Late’s Strategic Plan 2019-24
  • Develop our impact measurement process
  • Develop in-house database of funders applied to

Develop excellent relationships with funders

  • Build good working relationships with contacts at Trusts & Foundations and key stakeholders
  • Ensure reports and communications are delivered to deadline to keep funders up to date with progress against grants and any other relevant operational developments

Monitoring and evaluation

  • Ensure all internal records are updated on regular basis.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure evaluation reports are submitted in a timely manner, capturing data from our Salesforce (CRM) system.
  • Contribute to all monitoring and evaluation, ensuring compliance with GDPR and other data protection requirements and best practice.
  • Supporting external sharing of impact of our work through case studies, contributing to the social media output of the charity.

General

  • To work in a collaborative way, supporting the aims and ambitions of the charity
  • To work in accordance with the charity’s values, promoting our approach to equality of opportunity for all and other policies as detailed in our staff handbook.

Person specification

Essential

  • At least 2 years experience of developing successful funding bids in a charity setting.
  • A demonstrable track record in securing grants in excess of £10k
  • Experience of undertaking prospect research and pipeline management
  • Strong writing skills and ability to synthesise information with good attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to forge internal and external relationships
  • Able to work independently, managing multiple projects to meet deadlines and able to communicate progress to colleagues effectively.
  • Knowledge of using computers (Microsoft Office)

Desirable

  • An understanding of the issues faced by people with learning disabilities
  • Experience of working as part of a small team in a charity setting
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practice and industry standards. ]
  • A desire to develop potential for Corporate fundraising (a project that we have started as a charity)
  • Experience of using a CRM system such as Salesforce
  • Happy to lead on organizing occasional fundraising events (typically annual gigs)

Due to the nature of this post we are open to being flexible about working arrangements and you wouldn’t need to be based in our Brighton office.
