Title of post: Business Development Manager

Responsible to: Head of Programmes

Salary: £25-28,000 dependant on experience

21 hours per week. 1-year fixed term contract

Location: The Stephen Lawrence Centre, Deptford, London, SE8 4HU

Job Purpose:

The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust is recruiting a part-time Business Development Manager to create strategy and deliver of our Fundraising and Communications functions. He/she will lead on the day-to-day management of existing funders, the development of a pipeline of future funding and on the delivery of a communications strategy for the charity.  We’re a small charity, so whilst bursting with ideas that you can formulate into a communication and alternative income plan, you must be comfortable getting stuck in and delivering.

Essential Experience and Abilities

  • To maximise voluntary, corporate and individual income by maintaining and developing donor relationships with individuals, high worth donors and corporates
  • To research and prepare funding application for charity of the year, and other appeals to identify all key funding opportunities
  • To lead on, and contribute to, the development of the Stephen Lawrence Friendship scheme, including maximising individuals who sign up to the scheme and rolling the programme out nationwide
  • To deliver and represent the trust at internal and external fundraising events
  • Sustaining donor relationships through effective donor stewardship
  • To successfully role out our communications strategy, including through social media and other digital platforms
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative fundraising campaign ideas, utilising effective engagement and digital techniques as appropriate to roll out Friendship scheme
  • Take responsibility for developing and managing the implementation of integrated supporter engagement plans to involve communications and fundraising.

Main tasks

  • To lead in development of the fundraising strategy for giving schemes, corporates and high worth donors, and contributing to annual fundraising plans and targets
  • To identify potential new corporate partners and begin relationship management process
  • To maximise income from the above sectors by researching and identifying strategic funding opportunities
  • To maintain and develop relationships with key funders and donors through face-to-face contact, telephone and written communication
  • To monitor donor response rates and appeals and maximise income from Friendship scheme
  • To ensure all communications channels are co-ordinated and optimised in line with SLCT key messages
  • Implement our stakeholder strategy, improving external and internal communications work, increasing awareness of our work across London but also nationwide, and to support fundraising campaigns.
  • To deliver a step change in our external communications, including digital media for promotion and fundraising.
  • To develop our Corporate and Community fundraising activities to achieve our fundraising targets in 2018/19.

Monitoring

  • To co-ordinate and maintain a schedule of monitoring return deadlines for friendship scheme and ensure that all monitoring requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner
  • To organise and host monitoring and other visits for existing and potential key funders and major donors in consultation with the Senior Management Team.

Administrative

  • To ensure that accurate records of all income and expenditure are maintained and to produce a monthly income and expenditure report on fundraised income by type of income.
  • To maintain accurate and up to date records of all funding opportunities, appeals, approaches, donor contacts and coverage.

General

  1. To attend supervisions, team meetings and other meetings, as and when required.
  2. To attend internal and external training courses, as agreed with your line manager.
  3. To represent the organization at internal and external events including networking events, fundraising events and launch activities, as and when required.
  4. To adhere to the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice, Charity Law, Health & Safety Law, Data Protection and GDPR and other relevant legislative requirements.
  5. To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required.

This is an exciting new role, in a fast-paced environment as part of a dedicated, passionate and hard-working team.  You must be self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to digest complex information quickly, you should be able to cope well under pressure and balance competing priorities effectively.

The ideal candidate will bring experience of successfully delivering awareness raising and/or fundraising campaigns.

Experience & qualifications

  • Significant and demonstrable experience of delivering fundraising communications, particularly integrated campaigns, across a range of platforms.
  • Track record in developing and delivering communications strategies to both internal and external stakeholders through a range of streams.
  • Significant experience of increasing supporters through digital promotions
  • Experience of fundraising – be it through trust, statutory, community, corporate or major donors.
