We are local charity working in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames with adults experiencing mental ill-health and/or learning disabilities.

For over 50 years, our charity has developed and now provides:

  • A Resource Centre for over 86 adults who live in the local community facing mental health issues.  This is a centre-based service in Surbiton which provides a range of activities designed to support people in the management of their illness, to learning new skills and improving their quality of life.
  • Firs Court provides Residential Care for 9 adults with complex needs and Supported Living for 15 tenants in Chessington. The Care Quality Commission has rated our care as “Outstanding” and “Good” in all other areas.

The right person will be joining a small friendly team of passionate people working to promote the work of the charity through various means of communication in order to raise money and recruit supporters. 

Purpose and scope of the job:

You and your job partner will be working closely to:

  • Support and develop Communication throughout the Charity through the use of :
  • Website
  • Digital media
  • Imagery: video clips, photos
  • Newsletter (twice yearly)
  • Impact Report (yearly)
  • Managing and Publicising events (occasional out-of-hours)
  • Blogging
  • Talks – together with volunteers and Project Coordinator
  • Press Releases and local media outlets
  • Increase awareness of the work of the Fircroft Trust within the Borough
  • Help break down stigma and misunderstanding surrounding mental health issues
  • Identify funding opportunities and promote the charity to help raise funds
  • Apply to Trusts and Foundations for funding
  • Maintain a database of supporters within the relevant GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) guidelines.
  • Maintain and Develop a library of images/videos
  • Update supporters and other stakeholders on the Fircroft Trust’s activities
  • Collate relevant impact/outcomes data generated by mental health team
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Business Plan and Communications Strategy
  • Develop corporate contacts and coordinate their involvement in the Charity

GENERAL COMPONENTS:

  • To work as part of the team of staff and volunteers at The Fircroft Trust and assist with the general office support at all times to ensure the quality of service is maintained
  • To have full awareness of The Fircroft Trust policies and procedures and implement them in all work activities, with particular focus on Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety and Safeguarding
  • Demonstrate a continually developing knowledge and skill set for the benefit of The Fircroft Trust and be proactive in sourcing relevant training opportunities
  • To be aware of and be committed to the promotion of The Fircroft Trust’s values, vision, mission and diversity statements in both employment and service delivery
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the position and in line with the requirements of the post

Essential skills:

You will be a strong communicator with a love of meeting people from different walks of life.

You will be able to empathise with vulnerable people – an understanding of mental health issues and learning disabilities is a bonus.

You will be able to capture stories from clients and sympathetically engage your readers using visual as well as written forms of media.

You will be proficient in the use all forms of digital communication, including website platforms, Facebook, twitter and more, to get your stories across.

You will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Desirable:

Experience using Microsoft 365 packages would be a bonus, but we are happy to train the right person.

Trust fundraising experience
