About Us: 

The National Literacy Trust is a national charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life. 

One person in seven in the UK has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five. 

We are now seeking a Project Manager to deliver our Skills Academy programme, which combines sport and literacy to increase engagement and motivation, and help young people improve their reading skills.

In 2016 - 2017, we supported literacy in over 100,000 children, nearly 4,000 schools and over 100 early years settings. In 2018 we celebrate our 25th anniversary, and the impact of this work, including improving school readiness in Middlesbrough and the writing skills of teenage boys in Bradford. 

This is new post to support the expanded Skills Academy programme, working with a new funder. You will have the chance to take ownership of delivery and make it a success. So, if you are looking for a fresh challenge this is the role for you.

Your Role: 
 
As our Project Manager, you will be tasked with all aspects of delivery, from recruiting schools to evaluation, for a proven literacy intervention aimed at improving reading skills amongst young people. Using sport and other hobbies, Skills Academy engages secondary school students and provides them with the skills that are vital to their educational development. 
 
Due to new funding, the Skills Academy programme is growing and your role will be integral to the success of the project.

About You: 

To be considered as a Project Manager, you will need: 

- Experience as a project manager within an education or sports background 
- A strong team player mentality 
- A passion for literacy 
- The drive to make a difference 

Other companies may call this role Project Manager, Programme Manager, Project Delivery Manager, Education Project Manager or Sports Programme Manager.
