UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.

India Country Office is a key Private Sector Fundraising market for the organization, with an approximate expected growth of 20% year on year during the next country programme.  The programmatic needs over the next Country Programme Development 2018-2022 are estimated at USD $70 million per year to be raised from individuals, corporations, foundations, philanthropists, National Committees and Bilateral Donors. The Partnerships pillar will be working towards securing new prospect partners and maintaining existing partners.  It will also ensure the linkages with Individual Fundraising, Pathway to Pledge and Public & Private Sector Engagement.

Purpose of the job:

Under the guidance of the Representative, responsible for the overall coordination, planning, development and management of strategic resource mobilization & partnerships approach through individual fundraising, partnerships with corporates, foundations, high net worth individuals, global and bilateral donors.  Responsible for strategic engagement with a variety of stakeholders to ensure active contribution and facilitate engagement to promote children’s rights through the Public and Private Sector Engagement for Child Rights (PPSE) programme outcome strategy.

Key Responsibilities and expected Results

1. Provide leadership and direction in UNICEF India’s Resource Mobilization & Partnerships strategies and implementation frameworks focused on global and private sector donors (including National Committees, bilateral donors, corporations, foundations, private individuals and philanthropic donors).

2. Negotiate and advocate for programme funding needs amongst key influencers and external stakeholders (existing and potential partners including UNICEF National Committees, Bilateral donors, corporations and foundations and philanthropic donors). Advise and support the Representative and other senior staff in cultivating key relationships.

3. Provide leadership in leveraging results for children and creating a common understanding and awareness on the role of the private sector in respecting and supporting child rights.

4. Negotiate and advocate for public & private sector engagement goals and strategies on behalf of UNICEF with senior government officials as well as establish organizational leadership in a cutting-edge area to effectively position UNICEF India with business on its impact on children.

5. Provide overall leadership, guidance and direction for Resource Mobilization & Partnerships planning, implementation, research and analysis through on-going consultations and inter-sectoral exchanges and coordination of activities, information and experience to achieve financial and non-financial objectives with regards to facilitating integrated engagement and action to promote children’s rights and responsible business practices.

6. Drive effective implementation of those strategies, securing and managing all resources (human, financial, knowledge and other) required to achieve objectives.  Establish work plans, monitor compliance with performance standards, and provide support and guidance to ensure that objectives are achieved.

7. Represent the Resource Mobilization & Partnerships section at the Country Management Team, and serves as focal point for State Offices and sections to:

  • Identify programmatic and funding priorities for donors;
  • Leverage the interface of Public & Private Sector Engagement with UNICEF’s programmatic priorities;
  • Identify key influencers (corporates and individuals) to leverage their core
  • competencies and assets to leverage results for children and help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

8. Work in close collaboration with cross-sectoral sections – Communication, Advocacy & Partnership (CAP), Communication for Development (C4D), Social Policy Monitoring and Evaluation (SPME), Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Gender, as well as other programmes sections and Operations to unify projection of UNICEF’s image and brand positioning to UNICEF’s donors.

9. Establish work plans and budgets and ensure monitoring within the UNICEF financial rules and policies.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

  • Advanced University degree in Business Administration, Management, Economics, Development Studies, Fundraising, Marketing, International Relations, Communication, Social Sciences or other related fields. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional work experience at national and international levels in fundraising or business development for an international organization, non-profits or companies, coupled with significant managerial and leadership experience, including management responsibility for a national, regional or global fundraising programme covering multiple private sector audiences.
  • Extensive experience in high level sales, marketing and/or of developing partnerships with the corporate sector.
  • Proven track record of engaging with the private sector for the development and implementation of high-impact, large-scale and sustainable approaches to fundraising and partnership with measurable results.
  • Experience at strategic management level and team leadership is required.
  • Experience in the management of public and private partnerships, especially in the areas of sustainability/corporate social responsibility in the business sector are assets, as is experience of the India business or consumer market.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Working knowledge of another United Nations language is desirable.
