How can you make a difference?

Located in Geneva, Switzerland, the Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (RO ECA) coordinates and supervises UNICEF’s work in 22 countries and territories to ensure that no child is left out in our efforts to realize their rights.

There is significant untapped potential to generate additional, flexible resources for UNICEF’s work over the coming 5-10 years in countries of the Europe and Central Asia region. Countries in ECA are all middle-income, with many fast approaching the high-income threshold. Many of these have vibrant and growing private sectors, including business, foundations and other key influencers, as well as potential for individual giving. This position will guide the ECA Regional Director and concerned Country Representatives in the leadership of private sector fundraising and partnerships in order to maximize results for children by generating resources for the programs in the region through targeted fundraising.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

Under the supervision of the Regional advisor, Partnerships, this post will be responsible to:

  1. Lead the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the private sector aspects of the ECA Regional Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Strategy as aligned with UNICEF’s global private fundraising and partnerships plan.
  2. Provide strategic direction, capacity building and quality technical support of private fundraising and partnerships activities to country offices in the region to maximize results for children.
  3. Facilitate the development and nurturing of strategic partnerships with major donors, foundations, and multinational corporations in the ECA region to generate resources for UNICEF programmes in the region.

Experience

  • At least 10 years relevant and progressively responsible professional work experience including private sector fundraising, philanthropy and corporate social responsibility / sustainability. The private sector fundraising experience must include role(s) having direct accountability in a territory/ territories for achieving income targets. Knowledge of private sector fundraising, philanthropy and corporate social responsibility / sustainability is required. Knowledge and experience of how UNICEF country offices work (and/or work experience in a country office) are advantages.

Education

  • An advanced University degree in social sciences, business administration, management, marketing or fundraising. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required and another UN language.
