Who are Make 2nds Count?

Make 2nds Count is dedicated to making women and men living with incurable secondary breast cancer count. 

We aim to do this by raising funds to support research specifically into secondary breast cancer.The research will take place within the Institute of Genetic and Molecular Medicine (IGMM) based at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. Research funds will work towards extending and improving the quality of life for patients battling against this treatable yet incurable disease. 

Make 2nds Count hopes to benefit the public and, in particular, by raising awareness through education and medical research relating to secondary breast cancer. We also aim to provide support for individuals or family members of those suffering from secondary breast cancer. 

Since the launch the sum of £100,000 has already been donated to research. In year 2 we aim to increase this figure through the recruitment of both a community and corporate fundraiser to join our team. These will be the first permanent posts within the charity and therefore will provide excellent career development opportunities for the right candidates.

More about the role: 

The Corporate Fundraising Manager will have the key responsibility of reaching out to ensure that Make 2nds Count are receiving the financial support of corporate organisations whether this be through yet not limited to COTY schemes, payroll giving, private donors and legacies. 

Duties and responsibilities: 

Strategic and business development: 

  • Research and recommend income generation initiatives carrying out detailed costed proposals with resource implications. 
  • Create and be responsible for achieving KPIs, monitoring and reporting on an ongoing basis and making recommendations for corrective action with needed. 
  • Develop and implement the strategic and operational plans for raising income through a portfolio of corporate fundraising initiatives and events. 
  • Establish and develop corporate relationships through Charity of the Year partnerships, payroll giving schemes, corporate sponsorship, monthly direct debits and other means of financial support. 
  • Proactively continue to seek new financial supporters for Make 2nds Count. 
  • Establish and develop a major donor and legacy programme.

Financial Management: 

  • Prepare financial budgets ensuring that there is an understanding of the risks and assumptions and that plans are updated at regular intervals in line with timescales and targets. 
  • Work with the board of trustees to produce and then deliver strategies and operational plans to achieve budgeted net income across the charity with a strong focus on return on investment. 
  • In conjunction with the community fundraiser, ensure that that all income and expenditure is accurately logged and reported. 

Relationship Management:

  • Develop and devise mechanisms for generating funds across all revenue generation steams. 
  • Identify and approach new companies in order to secure new corporate supporters in all areas of the fundraising mix. 
  • Provide exceptional support to all donors and supporters.

Stakeholder Relationships: 

  • Work closely with the Community Fundraiser, board members and management team to develop corporate sponsorship opportunities for Make 2nds Count events. 
  • Develop good working relationships with fundraising suppliers, external agencies, designers, fundraising team members, external clinical services and all staff and volunteers, ensuring good communication throughout. 
  • Effectively line mange the Community Fundraiser, providing direction and allocating responsibilities.

Marketing and Logistics: 

  • Project manage Make 2nds Count corporate events and support other corporate events where Make 2nds Count is the beneficiary. 
  • Provide input and project manage the development of marketing materials.
  • Meet and engage with potential and existing supporters via networking and other external events. 
  • Work with the designated PR agency to generate press coverage where and when possible. 

Fundraising: 

  • Develop and deliver compelling fundraising engagement plans to motivate corporate staff to fundraise for Make 2nds Count. 
  • Provide high levels of support and relationship management to all charity partners. 
  • Manage all corporate partnerships, developing and implementing partnership plans as well as ensuring that these relationships receive an appropriate level of support. 
  • Work with the Community Fundraiser to recruit, train and support volunteers.
  • Be proactive in the monitoring and in the use of social media platforms in conjunction with the approved PR agency. 
  • Ensure that corporate donors and supporters are thanked in an appropriate fashion.
  • Facilitate the attendance of corporate guests at Make 2nds Count events.

Administration: 

  • Work with the Community Fundraiser to research and them implement the use of a fundraising database system.
  • Keeping abreast of current legislation, fundraising issues and market trends and developments with the corporate sectors. 
  • To create and implement an organisational Health and Safety Policy. 
  • To create and implement an organisational Equal Opportunities policy. 
  • To operate within the policies and procedures set out by the board of trustees. 
  • Provide reports to management team and board of trustees where required.
  • Any other duties that are required and relevant to the position.

Essential

  • Experience of account management and building relationships
  • Experience of networking and business development
  • Experience of fundraising 
  • Project Management Experience. 
  • Donor and supporter engagement 
  • Experience within Corporate CSR within a large company or corporate partnership fundraising with a charity 
  • Meeting and measuring key performance indicators to meet and exceed income targets 
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to present a compelling persuasive case for support 
  • Working with a solution focused approach
  • Strong understanding of equal opportunities and the confidence to translate these into a strategic plan
  • Excellent administration skills 
  • A strong team player with the ability to work across all sections of the charity
  • Ability to work flexibly in response to organisational requirements 

Desirable

  • Experience and understanding of fundraising methods including community, individual giving and corporate giving
  • An understanding of the challenges that those living with stage 4 cancer face
  • Experience of working with volunteers 
  • Advanced experience of working with Microsoft packages 
  • Fundraising or marketing qualification 
  • Awareness of relevant legislation / Charity law relating to fundraising
  • Clean driving licence
