The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks two Programme Managers (Science Divisions) to join us on a full-time (35-hour week) permanent or temporary basis to cover maternity leave. These roles are based at our Science Park Cambridge office (free onsite parking and close to the guided busway and Cambridge North railway station) with UK travel.

Job type: Full Time, Permanent and Temporary (Maternity Cover) contracts available 
Hours: 35 hours per week 
Salary: £40,027 to £44,474 per annum plus benefits

The Royal Society of Chemistry is an internationally renowned publisher of high quality chemical science knowledge and the professional body for chemists in the UK, with a thriving international community of around 50,000 members in over 100 countries and over 550 staff. As a not-for-profit organisation, we reinvest all of our income to achieve our charitable objectives in support of the chemical sciences community and advance chemistry. 

We have strong links with the people teaching and practising chemistry in schools, colleges, universities and industry and are the biggest non-governmental investor in chemistry education in the UK, accrediting over 95 per cent of chemistry degrees in the UK and Ireland. We support over 300 small and medium sized companies in the chemical sciences and we are a powerful advocate for the chemical sciences at the government level influencing science, education and innovation policy. 

As a Programme Manager, Science Divisions at the Royal Society of Chemistry, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Science Divisions and the development of elements of our Voice strategy. You will work closely with members of our Divisions, Heads of Chemistry UK and the wider chemistry community, to develop strong relationships with scientists at a variety of levels in universities and companies and also working in partnership with external stakeholders such as funding bodies and sister societies. 

In this role you will also work with colleagues across the RSC, both within and beyond the directorate, to connect with elements of our Voice strategy as well as to enhance links between our networks, delivering projects and activities to further the interests of the chemical sciences in higher education and research. 

About you: 

- PhD in chemistry or related sciences (or equivalent). 
- Passion for chemistry or related sciences research and innovation. 
- Experience of working in a team within a scientific organisation, industry, university or in a government setting to develop and deliver successful programmes and projects. 
- Awareness of the factors currently influencing the research and innovation environment, as well as the needs and concerns of people in the research and innovation community. 
- Ability to communicate and influence effectively with a variety of stakeholders and audiences, using a range of written and oral communication channels and in a range of sectors. 
- Experience of working on complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and / or able to balance and prioritise across multiple projects, tasks and deadlines. 
- Interest or awareness of chemistry-based technologies and an appreciation of the role of chemistry in advancing science and related technologies. 
- Initiative and ability to develop new ideas and approaches. 

Desirable: 

- Experience of working in a matrix environment. 
- Network of scientific contacts within the chemistry or related sciences and broader research and innovation community or evidence of being able to develop such networks. 
- Experience of organising meetings and events.
