Development & Alumni Engagement

The Royal College of Music (RCM) is one of the world's greatest conservatoires. The RCM seeks to appoint a highly-motivated and experienced Major Gifts Manager (Trusts & Foundations) to maximise income from charitable trusts and statutory grant programmes at the 5 to 7 figure level.

Founded in 1882, the Royal College of Music is a world-leading music conservatoire with a prestigious history and contemporary outlook. Our excellence was recognised by the 2020 QS World University Rankings, in which we ranked as the top institution for performing arts in the UK for the fifth consecutive year, and top in Europe. The Development & Alumni Engagement department (DAE) raises significant funds each year from individuals, companies, charitable trusts and foundations, to support the RCM in its educational and artistic mission.

This is an exceptional time to join the RCM, and to play a significant role as we work towards completion of an ambitious capital project and the realisation of future strategic objectives. The ‘More Music: Reimagining the Royal College of Music’ Campaign launched in 2015, is transforming the RCM’s facilities; investing in innovation and enhancing the student and visitor experience.

Reporting to the Head of Major Gifts, the post-holder will develop and coordinate cultivation plans for trusts and foundations, be responsible for managing an existing portfolio of high-value donors, writing proposals, reports, providing excellent stewardship and achieving a personal income target from existing and new potential funders. The successful candidate will have a systematic approach to fundraising, with excellent attention to detail, writing and organisational skills. They will have a successful track record of 5-6 figure+ support from trusts & foundations and previous experience of working to ambitious KPIs and financial targets. They will have well-developed interpersonal and networking skills with a track record in identifying and maintaining external relationships with key stakeholders and trustees. The post-holder will be committed to fundraising and cultivation best practices and guided by RCM Development team core values of excellence, integrity and teamwork.
