Main purpose and scope of the post:

To encourage and assist parishes in the vision objective of ‘Giving Generously of our time, talents and money to the cause of Christ, with particular emphasis on the IDEA section of the National ‘Building a Generous Church’ Strategy, helping parishes to Inspire, Disciple, Embed and Activate generosity across the diocese.

This will involve working in partnership with the current Stewardship Resourcing Officer (who will be focussing on the MINT section of the National Strategy (Mechanisms, Impact, Need and Trust) and other colleagues within the Diocesan Offices, churches and PCC’s to ensure the ongoing development of Christian Stewardship and Generosity throughout the Diocese.

Duties and Key responsibilities will include:

Parish Visits

  • Visiting parishes to speak and teach about generosity to PCC’s, parish groups, deaneries and other natural groupings.
  • Assisting and supporting parishes in the local use of Stewardship and Generosity resources including parish and deanery visits and offering advice and support where appropriate
  • Keep records of parishes who have been visited and, in conjunction with other colleagues, identify those where input would be beneficial and endeavour to meet with them.

Resourcing a Generous Culture

  • Helping parishes choose resources and methods that will help them explore generosity within their own context.
  • Offering support and guidance to Bishop’s staff on issues of Christian Stewardship and Generosity.
  • Creating resources for parishes to use, including further materials for small groups to help embed a culture of generosity across the diocese.
  • Promotion of stewardship and generosity principles at all levels of the diocese

Communication

  • Provision of appropriate articles on generosity for inclusion within Money Matters and other diocesan e-bulletins and publications.

Training

  • Assisting the existing Stewardship Resourcing Officer in the training of PCC treasurers and Gift Aid Secretaries.  This is done in collaboration with the Finance Team.

Responding

  • Work with the existing Stewardship Resourcing Officer and the Finance Team to provide ad hoc support to treasurers
