Are you hard-working, talented and want your job to contribute to sharing God’s kingdom and alleviating suffering? Do you enjoy taking initiative and applying your technical skills to new areas? Do you thrive when part of a team working together towards ambitious targets?

We’re looking for a Fundraising Officer to contribute to BMS’ fundraising strategy and goals through the development and day-to-day management of BMS’ regular giving programme, project management of direct mail appeals, leading on creative innovative fundraising campaigns, administration of BMS’ major donor programme, support in the development of new fundraising products, and in the ongoing creation of a culture of outstanding supporter care.

You’ll need to work hard and learn fast to pick up all the technical skills that this job requires. But you’ll have the full support of a friendly, encouraging and collaborative team helping you to succeed. And this is much more than just a technical role! As a champion of supporter care, you’ll also be ensuring that every interaction our supporters have with BMS is inspiring and uplifting.

This is a professional development role. The successful candidate will complete the Diploma in Fundraising at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising within two years. The course and coursebook are sponsored by BMS, and course/exam days and hours can be taken as study leave. All coursework needs to focus on BMS and be completed outside of working hours.

After two years, with a completed Diploma in Fundraising (gaining at least a merit) and fully achieved annual objectives, this role will be reviewed. The aim is to increase the level of responsibilities based on the gained knowledge and experience within the first two years. A new job description will be agreed at that time.

Key objectives for the new role will be:

  • Increased responsibility for strategic planning of individual giving programmes: Develop and deliver an annual individual giving strategy that is both biblically based and reflects an understanding of BMS’ typical supporter (mainly Baptists) and their beliefs about giving as an expression of their faith. Also maintain an awareness of individual giving fundraising trends and best practice, responding to any legislation or regulatory requirement in the UK in order to continuously improve our income-generating approaches.
  • Line management: Supervision of Individual Giving Administrator will turn to full management responsibility.
  • Legal and Compliance: Ensure all due diligence and compliance procedures are adhered to – including that all activity follows industry best practice, GDPR/PECR regulations and the CIOF Code of Fundraising Practice.

Talent, potential and attitude are just as important to us as qualifications and experience, so please get in touch even if you don’t think you tick all the boxes quite yet. The successful applicant will be a committed Christian. The nature of this role means that this is a specific occupational requirement.
