About Breathe Arts Health Research

The Breathe Arts Health Research team believe everybody has the equal right to lead a happy, healthy and fulfilled life. For some people, however, there are significant barriers to this: ill health, a stressful job, loneliness, or simply living in a society that is not well adapted to their physical or emotional needs. There is strong evidence that the arts can offer people facing these challenges something very special: the chance to discover their creativity and interact with others, giving them purpose and value.  By drawing on this research and breathing music, magic, dance - and much more - into healthcare spaces and communities, we offer people hope, friendship and fulfilment when they need it most. We do this through a diverse range of evidence-based performing arts programmes, co-created with clinicians and artists in order to deliver life-changing experiences.

We have received wide recognition for our innovative, high quality work, including the Action for Children’s Arts Outstanding Contribution Award, NHS England’s Innovation Challenge Award, PwC’s Social Entrepreneurs Club Award and Nesta’s ‘New Radicals’ accolade.  We have featured on BBC Breakfast, London News, ‘Trust Me I’m a Doctor’ and other media. As we now move on from our start-up phase to become more established and sustainable, our ambition is to grow our arts in health programmes and change more people’s lives for the better.  That’s where this role comes in.

About this role

The Head of Development will develop and deliver an effective income generation strategy, taking the lead on managing and growing our relationships with a wide range of new and existing supporters. That means making the most out of some great existing partnerships as well as developing new opportunities, all of which will contribute to us supporting more people.

Breathe is in a great position when it comes to fundraising. We have a strong network of businesses and individuals that are incredibly passionate about our work.  We have a fantastic story and an enthused, engaged set of patrons and ambassadors willing to support our fundraising.  This is a new, standalone role, however all the Breathe team are very engaged in fundraising so the Head of Development will receive excellent, proactive assistance from them, the Managing Director and a network of talented artists ready to participate in events and initiatives in a creative, engaging way.

About you

You are highly empathic and are motivated by building effective relationships.  You’ll have extensive experience in corporate or community fundraising, business development or account management, with a deep understanding of how to build and manage a wide range of partnerships. Specifically:

  • You have an aptitude and love for storytelling, being able to influence and persuade both companies and individuals to support Breathe. You can express yourself compellingly in writing and speech, with superb presentation skills
  • You are not intimidated by a big financial target (at least £150,000 of income each year)
  • You want to work for an organisation that values kindness, innovation and excellence
