If we are to live in a world without gender-based violence, men and boys have significant work to do to unlearn harmful masculinities and behaviours that contribute to systemic violence, and to be part of positive changes in their communities. Beyond Equality (formerly Good Lad Initiative) is leading that work.

Trustee pack and application form available on our website.

We are experts in facilitation and experts in understanding how and why people change. Every year, through education and supportive environments in schools, universities and sports teams, we enable thousands of people to create more positive identities, healthier relationships and supportive communities.

At the core of our work are transformative conversations, tailored to each community we work with to be relevant to their lives, facilitated to be open, safe and inspiring. So far, we have held thousands of hours of deep discussions with men and boys, and the demand for our transformative work is growing.

Amidst the trauma of Covid-19, our work will be needed more than ever. The frustrations and tensions of lockdown, the uncertainty and pain of the recession, and the grief of the disease itself will all need to be worked through. We play a crucial role in helping boys and men find healthy, helpful coping strategies and prevent harmful practices and patterns of controlling or destructive behaviour.

We are about to finish a rebrand process, which means that we have the opportunity to relaunch our organisation in the autumn with a strong set of objectives: to reach all young men in the UK with ideas of positive masculinities that are relevant to them, their identities and their communities; to transform healthy relationships and consent education for men; to establish organisational change programs that actively involve men, and to mainstream the open discussions of men’s roles in society to allow them space beyond the rigid stereotypes that can be so harmful to them and those around them.

We are looking for board members who can help us make the most of these opportunities, steering us towards a sustainable and long-term impact. We want to recruit Trustees who can bring the personal and professional experience to help us to better serve the wide range of people and organisations we work with, specifically schools which have a large percentage of students who experience discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion and immigration status.

Job Description:

We reopen our call for Trustees, with the specific intention of bringing on board more people of colour and establish gender parity,  to ensure we have a board who will guide us with an intersectional vision for the next decade.

Trustees will be appointed for a three-year period, with renewal possible. Basic duties will be to oversee the strategic direction and performance of the organisation, principally through four annual board meetings and one cross-organisational strategic planning day. Trustees will also be expected to attend one of our school/university workshops and one facilitator training annually. Trustees are expected to promote the organisation and assist in fundraising efforts.

Trustees will have the opportunity to customise their own roles, becoming actively involved in a priority area where they have expertise and time. We are particularly interested in a Trustee who could be actively involved in fundraising, community building with marginalised groups, increasing our public profile, or linking us with key networks in our operating environments.
