Senior Grant Fundraising Officer

Gwent Wildlife Trust is the leading conservation charity in Gwent, working for the wildlife and people of our rich and varied landscape. For over 50 years, we have been protecting wildlife and working to educate, influence and empower people to understand and care about their local environment. 

Our funders and supporters, whether grant-making trusts, local authorities, individuals, businesses or community organisations, are absolutely vital. We’re entirely funded through grants, membership subscriptions, legacies and donations and have developed a good reputation for our project delivery, campaigning and influencing over many years. 

The Role

We’re looking for a talented person to lead on our fundraising from grants and trusts, working within a friendly, committed and professional team in Gwent and as part of the wider movement of Wildlife Trusts in the UK. This role presents an exciting opportunity to make a highly significant contribution to nature’s recovery in Wales, working for a highly-regarded regional charity with ambitious goals.You will continue developing strong relationships with our major funding partners, building on our track record in securing multi-year project funding to restore wildlife and help nature recover in Gwent The successful candidate will enjoy finding creative and proactive ways to build relationships with new and existing funders across current and developing streams of work.

Reporting to the Head of Fundraising and Communications, you’ll also work closely and collaboratively with our Chief Executive Officer, Senior Management Team (SMT) and the wider team, taking the lead on securing and increasing our income from trusts and foundations and other major sources.You will be responsible for maintaining relationships with key funders and project donors, and identifying new potential funding sources.At this important time for fundraising, as we look to increase our income from Trusts and Foundations from 50% to 60% over the next few years, to include approx. £150-£200,000 into core operational costs, you’ll need to work across teams and have the drive to seek out and maximise a wide range of opportunities. With a proven track record in successful grant fundraising, or similar bid-writing experience, you will support and upskill other staff in developing their project ideas into high quality funding applications.You will take responsibility for ensuring best practice at all times, including use of Full Cost Recovery in budgets and for maintaining good standards of monitoring and evaluation of funded Projects. You will be the main point of contact for all statutory, grant, trust and foundation fundraising so whilst you don’t have to have specific environmental sector fundraising experience, you do need to be able to get to grips with our key areas of work and impact, and be able to articulate this in a way that is accurate and compelling. Although primarily focused on grants fundraising, this role has the potential to grow to include wider project and partnership development. 

Workplace Details

This role will be based at our premises in Gwent.  We can facilitate flexible working and due to current Covid-19 restrictions within our offices it is likely that the successful candidate will need to work from their home address at least some of the time.
