TITLE OF POST: Community Fundraising Officer

PLACE OF WORK: Hatfield

SALARY: £24,000-£26,000 (based on 37 hours)

TYPE OF CONTRACT: Permanent

HOURS: 21 hours per week (flexibility will be required for early morning, evening and occasional weekend working) – can be worked over 3 or 4 days

BENEFITS:

Annual leave: 25 days per annum pro rata increasing by one day a year after 5 years’ service to a maximum of 28 days (in addition to Bank & Public holidays)

Pension: hyh will contribute 3% of basic salary to The People’s Pension on behalf of the employee.  Staff eligible to join the scheme will be automatically enrolled into the scheme at 3% of basic salary on commencement of employment. Once in the scheme a further 5% will be contributed by hyh.

Group Life Insurance: 4 times salary. Entry to the scheme is automatic on joining the charity.

Employee Assistance Programme: offering counselling and emotional support to improve wellness and performance.

Herts Young Homeless work with 16-24 year olds who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, those aged 10-15 whose families are at risk of relationship breakdown and those aged 18+ who are in housing need and have mental health and substance misuse problems. Last year we were able to directly support 2,495 young people and engaged with nearly 9,000 schoolchildren on the realities of leaving home. Our focus is on preventing homelessness by empowering young people to make positive informed choices, through a range of free, countywide, specialist preventative and crisis services.

Job purpose:

  • The Community Fundraising Officer will:
  • Contribute to hyh’s overall Fundraising strategy as a member of the Fundraising Team
  • Build, develop and maintain an innovative community fundraising programme
  • Research and develop opportunities for hyh to fundraise within Hertfordshire through community groups, schools, sports clubs, music and arts groups, supermarkets, shops and individuals to increase awareness, support and donated income.
  • Contact and invite organisations to receive a presentation from hyh about our work.
  • Present and introduce hyh to groups through engaging presentations, in-person visits and follow up in person, on phone or email.
  • Work closely with the hyh Education team to ensure that Fundraising engagement and support is offered to all schools who book an Education service talk for their school. 
  • Provide relevant fundraising ideas, support and create engaging materials and fundraising pages/contactless donations to enable community groups to have a great supporter experience.
  • Understand how to steward supporters, to motivate and inspire different groups to maximise income through fundraising activities
  • Develop relationships with existing Community Fundraising groups of volunteers and set up new ones as appropriate.
  • Work as part of a team and have specific responsibility for accurate data inputting of donations, fundraising and Gift aid claims and correspondence with community donors and fundraisers​

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute significantly towards the community annual fundraised income target of £65k; working with the Community & Events Officer and other hyh colleagues
  • Develop and maintain strong long-term relationships with all community supporters.
  • Provide community fundraising focused news and updates to the Digital Communications officer
  • Coordinate a community calendar of events and activities
  • Work closely, in a collaborative environment, with all Fundraising team members to contribute to the achievement of targets and the ongoing fundraising success of the Charity
  • To represent hyh in a variety of different contexts and to a variety of different audiences
  • In collaboration with the Fundraising and Communications Manager, monitor income to ensure the annual community target is met
  • Ensure that all activities are as cost effective as possible
  • Maintain Donorfy donor management system.
  • Analyse and set up fundraising data to identify new community fundraising income streams
  • To support the Fundraising team to ensure that all necessary risk assessments are completed and followed before, during and after any fundraising activity
  • Keep up to date with legislation and charity law to ensure all Community Fundraising activities comply
  • To be physically active in setting up and taking down at events and community fundraising activities

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educated to A level or equivalent
  • Experience in fundraising, marketing or comms gained in a charitable environment
  • Proven ability to engage, inspire and enthuse a range of supporters to raise funds and nurture relationships
  • Experience of administration in an office based environment
  • Confident at delivering presentations or talks to community audiences (groups and associations, schools etc)
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to work using own initiative and as part of a team
  • A commitment to undertake training where required and an enthusiasm for new challenges and experiences
  • An understanding and commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Experience of producing charity fundraising materials (Desirable)
  • An understanding of digital marketing and social networking including Mail Chimp (Desirable)
  • Experience of planning and co-ordinating fundraising events (Desirable)
  • An understanding of youth homelessness (Desirable)

  • Able to present and network confidently

  • Ability to ensure accurate data inputting
  • Creative thinking, imaginative and entrepreneurial attitude towards fundraising
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, prioritising work to meet deadlines

Knowledge

  • IT literate with experience of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook
  • CRM database experience (Desirable)

Miscellaneous

  • Ability to work independently and as a team player

  • Willingness to work early morning, evenings or occasionally at weekends where required to meet the needs of the charity
  • A full driving licence; willing to travel throughout Herts
