Job description

Summary

Just Like Us, the LGBT+ charity for young people, is recruiting a Fundraising Assistant to join their award-winning team. This role is critical to the success of Just Like Us, helping us to build our sustainability, boosting our impact and contributing to our ultimate goal of reaching more LGBT+ young people across the UK every year.

Your primary responsibility will be to work on developing fundraising proposals, preparing reports and marketing communications, and providing administrative support. The Fundraising Assistant will support the Head of Development to enable the charity to grow and diversify our income and ensure we remain financially sustainable so that we can reach even more LGBT+ young people across the country.

This entry-level role will provide a strong foundation for a career within the voluntary sector.

About Just Like Us

Just Like Us (JLU) is the LGBT+ charity for young people working for a world where LGBT+ young people live awesome lives.

Our mission is to empower young people to be the champions of LGBT+ equality. We don’t believe in talking on behalf of people and aim to give a platform to LGBT+ young people to speak for themselves. To do that, we run three core programmes:

  • Ambassador Programme: we partner with employers to train LGBT+ young people to give talks and workshops in schools that use their own stories to champion LGBT+ equality and challenge prejudice

  • School Diversity Week: our annual initiative empowers teachers and pupils across the country to tackle homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic bullying by organising activities that celebrate LGBT+ equality in education

  • Pride Groups: We work with school staff and young people to establish Pride Groups - student-led, school-based clubs for LGBT+ students and allies, aimed at providing safe spaces for LGBT+ young people

Our values

We are dynamic, constantly adapting to focus on what works. We believe that challenging prejudice takes courage and that empowering young people is the surest way to change the world. We believe in trying new things - even when we aren’t sure they will succeed. We are evidence-driven and are not afraid to challenge the consensus. We take responsibility for the professional development of our staff. We are nonpartisan and dedicated above all to the wellbeing of LGBT+ young people. We want to send messages that being LGBT+ is something to be celebrated.

Our achievements

We’ve trained more than 300 young LGBT+ volunteers as our Ambassadors who have delivered talks to more than 50,000 pupils in schools across the UK. We’ve supported more than 130 schools to set up and/or run their own pride group (LGBT+ and allies club). We’ve engaged schools representing more than 1,950,000 young people in our annual flagship event celebrating LGBT+ equality in education - School Diversity Week.  And we’ve partnered with leading companies for the benefit of LGBT+ young people, including: Facebook, JP Morgan, Kiehl’s, BlackRock and Legal & General.
