About the Lambeth Youth Opportunities Fund

Lambeth Council and The London Community Foundation have partnered to create the Lambeth Youth Opportunities Fund (LYOF). The aim is to provide support and funding for local children’s and young people’s voluntary sector. The LYOF aim is to help young people to be safe, resilient, healthy and achieve their potential. We want to identify, test and scale the most innovative and effective initiatives to reduce inequality amongst young people in Lambeth.

The Lambeth Youth Opportunities Fund is focused on improving the life chances for the most vulnerable young people in the borough: children living in poverty, children with special educational needs and disabilities, looked after children and care leavers. The Fund will also prioritise supporting young people from communities that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19 such as black African and Caribbean communities.

Background

In consultation with Lambeth’s voluntary community sector, the LYOF was launched in December 2020 with an individual giving campaign. Letters were mailed to residents and local businesses introducing the LYOF and seeking donations via the online payment platform.

Adverts raising awareness of the fund ran in a number of local publications and a video featuring (then) Leader of the Council, Cllr Hopkins was posted on Lambeth Council’s Linkedin page. Links to the donation platform were posted on the council’s twitter and Instagram pages.

The Fund has raised £42,000 to date and continues to receive donations from residents.
