Relief International (RI) is a leading non-profit organization working in 16 countries to relieve poverty, ensure well-being and advance dignity.  We specialize in fragile settings, responding to natural disasters, humanitarian crises and chronic poverty.

Relief International’s global support functions are based across our head offices in the United States and the United Kingdom. This geographical mix fosters collaboration and maximizes the resources we are able to deploy for the delivery of services in the countries.

As the Interim Deputy Director of Development and Communications you will continue to establish and grow our fundraising programme for individuals, foundations and corporations, focussing your skills and expertise on the UK market. The department has an annual global revenue goal of $1.5 million, a third or more of which is unrestricted.  You will help deliver the 2020/21 strategy to fully integrate development and communications, to increase awareness of Relief International’s work in front of key audiences and to secure unrestricted revenue.

As a key player in a small and experienced team, you will be a strong self-starter who is happy to be managed remotely and to work directly with the CEO and Board of Trustees.

You will help increase revenue through managing relationships with existing European donors and prospects and help to identify and secure new donors. The primary focus of your work will be in securing major gifts and foundation grants and a secondary focus on supporting the team with digital small-sum donations.

You may have the opportunity to travel to either our Global Headquarters in Europe or the USA or to visit our projects in fragile settings across the world. A willingness to travel is advantageous but not essential.

You will have proven success in front line fundraising in the UK, preferably in an international development context. Your previous experience of individual major gifts and foundations together with your excellent verbal and written communication skills are prerequisite for this role.

Your excellent understanding of marketing and communications in relation to how these functions can support and bolster private sector fundraising will be critical to this role.

The ability to manage consultants to support the donor communications work of this growing department is essential. You will have experience in high-level donor events and this role will see you conceive, plan and deliver small scale dinners, round-tables and other convening events as opportunities arise.

As a forward-thinking organisation, we are able to discuss with each individual applicant there needs with regards to working hours, we are able to consider a variation on working days and hours and flexible working practises on a case by case basis, so we would encourage applicants to apply as long as they have the relevant experience and passion for Relief International’s values.

Please apply by uploading your cover letter and up-to-date CV on our website.

Due to limited resources only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Please note that to be considered for this role you must be able to provide proof of your eligibility to work in the UK.

Relief International is an equal opportunities employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.

Relief International is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of vulnerable adults and children as a priority. This is reflected in our pre-employment checks and requirement to verify and check the identity and references of all applicants.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
