Ripon Cathedral are looking for a passionate and engaging Development Manager to join our small team and help grow our non-profit income.

The post holder will assist the Director of Development in delivering the cathedral’s fundraising strategy and developing new income across all income streams including securing new philanthropic income from individual donors, grant income and corporate sponsorship.

The role would suit someone motivated, with great people skills and a passion for heritage, education and an appreciation of the role that Ripon Cathedral plays within the wider community of North Yorkshire.

The role is offered on a part day 21hrs/week basis which can be split across the week to suit both the needs of the candidate and the cathedral. Flexible working including hybrid working will also be considered.

Benefits include 26 days per year plus Bank Holidays (pro rata) and enrolment in the pension scheme operated by the Church of England Pensions Board.

Key responsibilities include:

General Fundraising

  • Working with the Director of Development to understand funding priorities and create a strategy for achieving annual income targets
  • Working with the Director of Development to develop a fundraising calendar, incorporating fundraising and patron’s events, legacy giving campaigns and annual appeals, corporate networking and cultivation events, grant application and reporting deadlines
  • Working with other departments (e.g., Music, Education) to produce compelling cases for support in pursuit of new donors, grants and corporate support
  • Recording all fundraising income on the CRM system and working closely with the finance department to ensure all income is correctly accounted for and tracked
  • In conjunction with the Finance Department, tracking and recording all gift aid and ensuring that annual gift aid claims are submitted promptly
  • Producing and submitting monthly income and expenditure reports to the Director of Development and assisting in the compilation of fundraising reports to the cathedral’s Chapter and Trustees
  • Liaising with Trustees to compile and submit annual Charity Commission returns
  • Line managing the Development Officer and any freelance fundraising staff
  • Ensuring that the overall income and engagement targets are met in line with the organisation’s fundraising strategy

Corporate/Individual Giving/Grants

  • Managing relationships with existing corporate partners, delivering presentations and pitching for support to new corporate partners
  • Managing relationships with existing patrons and individual donors, identifying new individual prospects and developing cultivation plans for each prospect
  • Delivering outstanding stewardship of existing partners and donors, with a view to continuing and growing their support for the cathedral
  • Developing legacy giving campaigns and promotions with a view to increasing legacy donations
  • Designing annual giving appeals in support of key departmental priorities (currently music)
  • Compiling grant applications to generate annual revenue income and in support of new capital developments
  • Submitting grant returns and reports to grant funders, reporting on grant achievements and expenditure
  • Developing ongoing stewardship plans to keep grant funders up to date and engaged

Fundraising Events

  • Managing fundraising events, including ticketing, promotion, logistics, staffing and volunteers on the day
  • Line managing freelance events consultants and working with them in the creation and delivery of community fundraising events
  • In conjunction with the Development Officer, inducting, managing and coordinating a range of fundraising volunteers
