St Edmundsbury Cathedral is seeking a part time specialist Trusts and Foundations Manager. This is a new post and a key position within St Edmundsbury Cathedral because a large proportion of our fundraising income will be restricted.  It is therefore designed for someone who is already experienced and successful in this area of fundraising activity.  We are seeking someone with the ability to work alongside busy colleagues to develop the best possible fundraising propositions for grant-givers and to introduce a robust approach to planning and a longer scoping of projects, so that applications are made in an orderly and strategic fashion.  You will have great writing and creative skills and be comfortable dealing with senior staff and trustees of the trusts and foundations.  In return, we offer flexibility on when you work your two days a week, and where, as well as a good remuneration package and friendly working environment.

Summary

The fundraising function was set up in 2019, establishing three areas of fundraising activity: patrons membership programme, legacies, and grant-giving.  We are now formalising these into an essential in-house function.  A Philanthropy and Membership Manager has been appointed who will look after individual giving, and we are now seeking a specialist Trusts and Foundations Manager.

Key Responsibilities of the post

  • Develop trust funding income in support of the Cathedral Master Plan.
  • Develop with colleagues a long-term trusts and foundations pipeline which identifies the key projects and programmes, which trusts will be applied to, and when.
  • Research, identify and maximise opportunities for support from grant-givers.
  • Write applications and reports to trusts, foundations, and statutory bodies.
  • Be responsible for the stewardship of existing relationships and work with colleagues to fulfil grant monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • Work with the Finance Team to ensure accurate reporting and reconciliation.
  • Ensure that the work with trusts and foundations is compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the Philanthropy and Membership Manager to consult with other cathedral fundraisers to select the best donor software system, receive training in how to use it and then take responsibility for migrating all grant-givers information onto this system and maintaining it thereafter.
  • Build strong working relationships with grant givers, clergy, staff, volunteers, patrons and donors.
