Our new HoD will lead Talawa’s Development Team and be an active and contributing member of Senior Management helping shape and drive Talawa’s development strategy as we approach our 40th anniversary in 2026.

You will develop and implement an ethical fundraising policy to ensure that relationships with our funders benefit Talawa financially and creatively, and further our reputation and mission.

Working closely with the Joint CEOs, you will build Talawa’s fundraising reach to support our exciting growing artistic ambitions by creating innovative individual wealth networks within the Black community. With the Executive Director, you will shape Talawa’s approach to Arts Council England and major trust and foundation supporters both existing and new, to build on our position as the UK’s outstanding Black theatre company. Using leverage from Talawa’s outstanding artistic work and its relationships with young and ethnically diverse audiences, you will create plans for corporate and commercial support and longer term, explore the potential for legacy giving.

You will contribute to Talawa’s overall business and strategic planning, bringing a development perspective to the Senior Management Team by leading and managing the Development function, including management of our Development Officer and ensuring that our collective, organisation wide fundraising approach is maintained and nurtured. You will enable our Board and ambassadors to act as effective fundraisers for Talawa, particularly with regards to building individual wealth networks.

Working with the Executive Director, you will assist with our next National Portfolio funding application to be written January to March 2022. You will create and deliver fundraising events, both in person and online, bringing together new and prospective individual and corporate supporters for our work. Your role will include: shaping compelling approaches and accompanying budgets, creating and delivering donor communications; bringing insights from our company and artists to our supporters; identifying and engaging with future philanthropic trends to maintain a strong overview of the fundraising landscape and ensuring that Talawa can leverage new opportunities. You will also carry out any other duties that may arise to fulfil the main objectives of the post and Talawa’s mission.

You will contribute to the embedding of evaluation across all our programmes to support fundraising and strengthen our case for support. At all times, you will ensure that Talawa’s fundraising activities are compliant with all relevant regulations, including GDPR and Fundraising Regulator guidelines.
