Senior Development Managers: Business School/Brighton & Sussex Medical School

Location: Falmer, Sussex

Salary: The salary for these roles is grade 8 starting at £45,585 to £54,395 per annum (pro rata if part-time) depending on skills and experience.

This is an exciting time to be joining the high-performing fundraising team at the University of Sussex. The new Vice-Chancellor is leading the development of an ambitious long-term strategy that will transform the University over the next ten years, and we are looking for self-driven and experienced fundraisers with a passion for Higher Education, to join our close-knit and ambitious team at this critical juncture in the University’s development. 

Reporting to the Head of Development, the two new Senior Development Managers, focusing on the Business School and the Brighton & Sussex Medical School respectively, will raise vital philanthropic income, and build lasting relationships with high-net worth individuals, to help foster a culture of philanthropy across these two dynamic and successful Schools.

Business School

We are looking for someone to direct and lead this new fundraising programme. With an excellent track record of securing mid and high-level gifts from individuals, you’ll also bring significant experience of building strong networks of philanthropic giving. The funds you raise will help deliver research and student programmes to create a better world, and scholarships to provide life-transforming opportunities for talented students regardless of their background.Working closely with the Dean of the School, the Development Director, and the Major Gifts Team, you’ll play a strategic role in identifying new prospects, and developing major gift proposals to cultivate and solicit major gifts primarily from individuals, including alumni, as well as corporates, trusts and foundations, to support the work of one of the top-performing Business Schools in the country.

Brighton and Sussex Medical School

Utilising your excellent track record of securing mid- and high-level gifts from individuals to support health or science programmes, you’ll be raising funds to deliver research programmes that create a better world and scholarships that provide life-transforming opportunities for all talented students regardless of background. The Brighton and Sussex Medical School is a partnership between the University of Sussex, Brighton University and University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust and the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Now in its 20th anniversary year, the Medical School has an ambitious programme to fundraise for, helping to take it to new heights over the next 20 years.

Working closely with colleagues in the Major Gifts team, the new Dean of the School and the Development Director, you’ll play a strategic role in identifying new prospects, and developing major gift proposals to cultivate and solicit major gifts primarily from individuals, including alumni, as well as corporates, trusts and foundations.

To be successful in either of these roles you will bring strong experience of frontline fundraising, including a history of soliciting, closing and stewarding gifts.Your proven ability to understand and articulate complex projects and programmes to a non-specialist audience will enable you to build strong relationships with the University’s supporters and ensure your success within the role.
